What is IJCE? IJCE(Iceland-Japan Cultural Exchange) is a nonpolitical nonprofit organization run by the college students in Iceland and Japan, which was established to seek a Iceland-Japan partnership from a student's perspective. Our mission is diplomacy through the cultural exchanges by students, as the name of us shows. We're deploying energetic activities under the auspices of Embassy of Iceland in Japan, Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan Iceland Assosiation and Iceland Japan Assosiation. Our main program is a semiannual student conference, in which students meet together and have academic disscussions, goodwill visits and fieldworks. The spring conference is held in Japan and Icelandic students visit Japan, and vice versa, the autumn conference is held in Iceland and we Japanese students visit Iceland. After each conference a debrief session is held and a report is published. Besides the conference, we have nonregular symposiums and other events for introducing Icelandic culture. IJCE was born in 2001 when Embassy of Iceland in Japan and Embassiy of Japan in Iceland were established. In September in 2003 the first conference was held in Reykjavik under the themes of "Next-generation Energy", and in March in 2004 we had the second conference in Tokyo and Hokkaido. Compared to other student conference asossiations, the activities of IJCE are quite unique in that the student members are engaged in all the process of planning, running and participating the conference. We're always exploring what we can do as students for the better relationship, and working toward the brighter future between Iceland and Japan. |
